Forestry Projects – Before and After

Prior to treatment, project sites are typically evenly-aged, very dense tree stands that lack diversity, offer little habitat for wildlife, and are not very resilient when it comes to disturbance such as wildfire and insect infestation.

Following treatment, the understory then receives enough sunlight for vegetation to grow, creating habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and allowing shade-intolerant tree species to return. The trees are thinned to reduce crown-fire potential if a wildfire were to sweep through the area. Additionally, it results in an aesthetically pleasing area on the property that landowners can now access and utilize.

After Treatment

Before: Prior to beginning work, trees were dense and evenly aged (20 acre treatment area)

After: Trees are selectively thinned to create variable-sized openings, increase species diversity, and reduce hazardous fuels that may increase wildfire risk.
