Landowner Assistance

Jefferson Conservation District and City.. Press Release.pdf

Despite the growing population of urban farms, urban agriculture faces numerous barriers, including access to social & physical capital. For this reason, JCD’s urban agriculture program aims to provide support to urban producers in any way we can. This includes offering informational site visits, extensive educational programming & materials, networking opportunities with relevant organizations, and participation in relevant Farm Bill programs.

Jefferson Conservation District's goal is to foster sustainable farming practices through education and partner cooperation, which will protect natural resources and meet the needs of a growing urban population. JCD offers technical assistance to urban farmers, with the broader goal of developing a food system that meets the needs of the local community and ensures food security. JCD can assist with all technical aspects of urban agriculture, including backyard and community gardening, small acreage farming, animal husbandry, installing high tunnels, developing a business model, and more.

JCD can assist with many aspects of urban agriculture such as:

  • Pasture management

  • Animal husbandry

  • Backyard and community gardening

  • Soil health

  • High tunnel installation

  • Soil moisture sensors
